DB Design Group (DBD) was founded 1989 by Derek Bowers. DBD was a
leading global provider of test interface solutions for the semiconductor
industry. Its products included IC device handler change kits, hard docking
systems, socket-saving receptacles and custom-designed equipment. Selected
customers included: Agilent, Altera, Cirrus Logic, Conexant, Cypress, IBM,
Lucent, Maxim, National Semiconductor, PMC-Sierra and Xilinx. DBD had strategic
partnerships with Kanematsu USA, Seiko Epson and Yamaichi Electronics. DBD’s
reputation of “works first time” was unparalleled with customers and OEM’s.
In April 2004, Derek Bowers engaged Instream as his financial advisor to sell
DBD. At the time of sale, DBD was profitable and expected growth based on new
products in its portfolio. Instream felt DBD should attract significant value given
its IC change kit market leadership and the contribution Derek Bowers and his
team could make to a buying company.
Instream understood that UMD Technology
was focused on building its company into a one-stop solution for semiconductor
test products; therefore, Instream introduced DBD to UMD’s President, Matt Bergeron.
UMD understood instinctively how DBD coupled with UMD's 2003 purchase of
WELLS-CTI, a leading supplier of burn- in, test sockets and thermal solutions
would put the combined companies in a position to offer integrated IC test
interface solutions to customers and improved IC test productivity with
significant cost savings.
In June 2005, UMD acquired DBD. Both companies
are excited at the opportunity they now how have to build upon each other's
strengths and expertise in engineering, manufacturing and technical sales. |
